Hello and welcome to my little piece of the world wide web! I am glad you stopped by!
So...let me tell you a little about myself, and my journey to the healthier side of life!
WHO IS JULIE JOHNS?
I am a wife, a mother, and brand new grandmother (very exciting part of my life). I am a faith driven human with many flaws, but I have a desire to be exactly who God has made me to be, at the right moments in my life! In my lifetime, I have worn many hats, both inside and outside the home, but my servant's heart is something that has always been present regardless of current headgear. I have an entrepreneurial spirit and have tried to consistently keep a small business, so that I am more available for my family.
Now, onto my journey of healthy living.
A SORT OF FORCED JOURNEY
I was diagnosed with Gout at a young age of 32 years old, even though I had flareups for the 4 years prior to that (the medical field said I was too young so it had to be something else ;). The "experts" attempted to treat my gout with good old fashioned ibuprofen 1600mg at the onset of my symptoms until the flare up would go away, I know CRAZY, but stay with me here just for a moment. After just a few short years of doing so, the medical field finally gave in and called it Gout. They began treating it accordingly and decided they should also test my kidneys to get a baseline (a little late after all the years of ibuprofen use). At 35 years old, I was already down to 52% kidney function with cysts and scarred up kidneys (I am now at 29% function almost 10 years later). This is when my journey truly began (I'll say its because of my health, but I also know that maturity, and seeing the world more clearly comes with age!!)
I began the daunting task of learning to read labels on the food we have been eating. I also began reading medical journals regarding gout and kidney disease and the correlation between what we put in our bodies and the outcome. MAN was I surprised to find the food I had been eating and feeding my littles wasn't really food at all. I also learned that all the over the counter pharmacy items may not be the best items to put in my body either!
Everything changed.
I began cooking from scratch and I mean everything was fresh made in my house. We tried to cut out all high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) but who doesn't love a good soda and Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) man do I love my chips! Just for starters. This was the start to a more natural way of life in our home, but it was just the tip of the iceberg.
Our family continued that way of life and added to it by having our own garden, buying local, grass fed beef from friends and family, purchasing a lamb and a hog from family, and raising our own chickens. My family would hunt deer and we processed our own meat when possible. We canned, we froze, we pureed, what we could and we lived a farm to table approach as much as possible. Then the diagnosis of a rare form of cancer came along further fueled my need for a healthy living approach.
The year prior to my diagnosis, I had been encouraged to try Essential Oils (Young Living of course) by my auntie. So I took the leap of faith and purchased a Young Living Premium Starter Kit. Once the kit arrived, I opened the kit and saw the amount of oils in the box and was quite overwhelmed. I tried to read the material that came with the kit thinking, man how will I ever learn this. So I hooked up a diffuser and used lavender to start and graduated into Thieves and RC (which are my 2 favorites all these years later). However, that was it of my EO journey for the time being, until the diagnosis and surgeries the following the following year. I began using oils for different ways to boost my immune system. I was a firefighter at the time with horrible sleep schedule and needed all the help I could get if I was to fight the cancer. I am fighter of course, so the best way to win is to prevent the enemy from attacking! I began learning everything I could about oils (and am still learning to this day).
In my 7 years since receiving my Young Living starter kit, I have become such a healthier human being. I have graduated my EO usage to include pretty much anything that touches my body is essential oils based, including makeup! I have zero chemicals in my home. All housecleaning is done with essential oil based items.. All soaps, detergents, body wash, even in the kitchen, I use YL Vitality oils to cook with! My hubby has EO's specific to his garage/shop (I'll show more on this later).
My journey consists of all things healthy and natural and yes, I still enjoy the less healthy items. However, the approach is a whole body, mind, and home approach. Even my grand baby is an oily baby already!
Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to get to know me. I would love to teach you how to reduce your chemical usage in your body and/or home. I have some great tips and tricks to not only reduce your chemical usage, but save money while doing it!
